Sustainability and Our Strategy
Why Sustainability?
For PotashCorp, sustainability is a philosophy of nurturing mutually beneficial relationships with our stakeholders to create long-term value. It matches our corporate vision: to play a key role in the global food solution while building long-term value for all our stakeholders. We embed our sustainability philosophy in all aspects of our business by:
- Operating with an understanding of how our strategies, actions and decisions impact the future of our business, the communities where we operate and the people associated with both.
- Managing our resources and our stakeholder relationships with a long-term view, holding ourselves to the highest standards of transparency, integrity and accountability.
- Following sustainable business practices to gain operating efficiencies, improve management performance, increase the positive impact of our operations and mitigate risks that could prevent us from accomplishing our goals.
- Working by our Core Values and related policies, and designing economic, social and environmental practices to help us fulfill our sustainability responsibilities to this generation of stakeholders and those that follow.
Sustainability and Our Organizational Goals
Sustainable business practices are critical to helping us meet the company’s five key organizational goals:
- To be the supplier of choice to the markets we serve, we operate with integrity, cultivating responsive relationships with customers while ensuring superior quality and service.
- To maximize long-term shareholder value, we use our competitive advantages, particularly in potash, to grow future earnings with reduced volatility. We are also committed to good governance and transparency to build trust and value.
- To build strong relationships with and improve the socio-economic well-being of our communities, we seek to earn the trust of people who live in areas where we do business. By engaging with communities and contributing to their quality of life, we cultivate ongoing support and promote economic and social stability.
- To attract and retain talented, motivated and productive employees who are committed to our long-term goals, we offer competitive compensation, communicate our goals and expectations clearly, provide opportunities for learning and advancement, and hold ourselves to the highest standards of workplace behavior.
