Operations
Cincinnati produces blended solutions of purified acid products, including food and technical grades of diluted phosphoric acid, monoaluminum phosphate and metal finishing solutions.
Annual capacity — 50,000 tons per year of phosphate products for food and technical applications
Performance
Significant Events
- Met or exceeded all safety goals set for 2009; completed a third year with no lost-time injuries, including everyone who comes on site
- Focused on quality control by establishing a program on hazard analysis
- Initiated the process to become ISO 9001 certified, targeted to be achieved in 2010
- Began a program of mock product recalls to test readiness to respond to product safety concerns
- Achieved more than 10 years without a hazardous material spill
- Completed significant capital improvements, including construction of a new administration building, improvements in water purification for process uses and improvements in storm water and process wastewater treatment
- Achieved a 4.1 out of 5 on first community opinion survey
Community Relations
- Continued to report news about the facility’s operations at quarterly Community Action Panel (CAP) meetings, including results of the community opinion survey
Community Donations
- Contributed $6,400 to local organizations, including the Greater Cincinnati United Way, Crosby Elementary School, Harrison High School, Ross High School and Crosby Township
- Contributed more than $800 in in-kind donations to Harrison Community, Crosby Elementary School and the local Community Advisory Panel
Educational Initiatives
- Supported grade and high school programs and sponsored a "LEAP" award that provided 12 savings bonds in 2009 to students at Crosby Elementary School who exhibited excellent effort and improvement each semester
Awards
- Received the Greater Cincinnati Safety Council 100% Award for excellent safety performance
Energy and Environment
- Installed new equipment to upgrade the facility’s water treatment system, which is designed to keep process water within permitted discharge limits for copper, zinc and total suspended solids
- Initiated efforts to reduce waste by measuring and monitoring non-hazardous wastes generated at the facility
Local Procurement
- Made local purchases in 2009 of $3.4 million, or 71 percent of total expenditures (excluding major expansions, raw materials, energy and transportation)
