Turnover, Layoffs, Absenteeism

Employee Turnover

Employee turnover at all PotashCorp operations averaged 8.5 percent in 2007, a reduction from 9.0 percent in 2006. The company enjoyed lower turnover in its male labor force, but slightly higher turnover among female employees. Turnover fell in Canada, the US and Brazil, but increased significantly in Trinidad.

Divestitures and Layoffs

There were layoffs when the company sold the last of its Farmers Favorite Fertilizer locations in 2007. This was a small fertilizer wholesale operation located at Moultrie, GA. The 22 employees who worked at this location all received severance benefits.

Hiring

PotashCorp's workforce increased by 132 positions in 2007. Most of this increase took place in the potash division, especially at Lanigan, Allan and Rocanville, due to production expansion initiatives at those sites. Significant hiring also took place at Aurora.

Absenteeism

The absenteeism rate of PotashCorp's hourly employees has returned to 2003 levels. Potash and phosphate have trends of increasing absenteeism. Nitrogen has a downward trend.
