Risk Management

Risk management is an important element of sustainability. A company is only as sustainable as its ability to withstand events that challenge its prosperity. A summary of PotashCorp's risk management program is given in the 2007 Financial Review Annual Report risk management section.

The 2007 Risk Matrix

The most significant sustainability risks are given in the 2007 Financial Review Annual Report. The risks in potash are: new supply creating a market imbalance, underground mining, suppressed demand creating a market imbalance, and lack of adequate transportation and distribution infrastructure.

The risk in nitrogen is the cyclical nature of the industry.

The risks to phosphate are cyclicality and potential actions by the US Environmental Protection Agency.
