Operations
An underground mining operation with an annual capacity of 1.4 million tonnes KCl, Cory produces white soluble and granular product, chicklets and K-Prills. Industrial product applications include water softeners and ice melt.
Significant Events
A significant expansion was announced in 2007, adding 1.2 million tonnes of potash capacity in 2010 at the cost of $890 million. Public meetings were held to provide information on the expansion of the site.
Ore supply and ore grade were low in the last part of 2007. This was addressed by moving mining equipment and requesting additional manpower.
Underground operations achieved two years lost-time injury-free. Surface operations reached three years lost-time injury-free.
Awards
For the second year in a row, the site shared the United Way of Saskatoon and Area Campaign Chair's Choice Award for the best overall performance by a workplace campaign in 2007.
Community Contributions
The value of cash donations to local community organizations in 2007 was $8,895. The major recipients were the United Way, Children's Health Foundation, Vanscoy School, Asquith School and Fairhaven Community Association.
The major recipients of in-kind contributions by the site were the Kidney Foundation, United Way, the Terry Fox Run, Joints in Motion and the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Local Procurement
The value of goods, materials and services purchased locally in 2007 was $18.2 million. This represents 67 percent of total procurement, excluding raw materials, electricity and transportation.
