Operations

This animal feed ingredients plant produces dicalcium phosphate (DCP) and monocalcium phosphate (MCP) feed supplements, with annual capacity of 180,000 tons.

Significant Events

The plant and community were without electricity for a week because of ice storms in both January and December of 2007. There were railroad closings on several occasions due to flooding in surrounding areas and power lines on tracks. Joplin employees responded to the challenge and continued truck shipments to customers by utilizing temporary power generators and lighting.

The Joplin plant maintained its certification by the American Feed Industry Association by meeting the requirements of the AFIA Safe Feed/Safe Food Program.

Joplin employees completed six years without a lost-time accident and 35 months without a recordable injury in 2007.

Community Support

The value of cash donations to local community organizations in 2007 was $10,153. This money went mainly to the McKinley Elementary School, United Way of Southwest Missouri, Newspapers in Education, Jasper County Sheriff's Drug Awareness Program and the Joplin Firefighters.

McKinley Elementary School was the beneficiary of the site's in-kind donations, valued at $425.

Awards

The site received a Silver Award from the United Way of Southwest Missouri for employee contributions.

Local Procurement

In 2007, the value of all goods, materials and services purchased locally (excluding raw materials, transportation and energy) totaled $1.0 million. This represented 48 percent of all procurement by the site.
