To achieve its overall goal of no damage to the environment, PotashCorp sets annual environmental targets. The company also adopted a five-year goal to reduce GHG emissions. In 2007, it achieved two of the five targets it set for the year.

| 1. Develop targets for GHG emissions. | The company set a target to reduce GHG emissions per tonne of product by 10 percent by the end of 2012 to 1.98 tonnes GHG/tonne of product. More details are given in the section Greenhouse Gas Emissions. | |
| 2. Develop five-year targets for improvements in energy efficiency. | The company decided to set a five-year target for GHG instead. It did set a one-year target for energy efficiency, which is to remain the same or improve energy efficiency compared to 2007. | |
