POTASHCORP'S SHE EXPECTATIONS ARE DETAILED WITHIN THE THIRTEEN ELEMENTS OF THE SHE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM.

The SHE Expectations outline requirements for the management of:
  • Safety and accident prevention;
  • Plant and equipment integrity;
  • Pollution prevention;
  • Energy conservation;
  • Personal, occupational and environmental health;
  • Product stewardship;
  • Sustainable development; and,
  • Employee and facility security;

IN ALL OUR ACTIVITIES AND OPERATIONS, WE WILL:

  • Comply fully with all legal requirements and meet or exceed the full set of PotashCorp Expectations wherever we operate in the world.
  • Provide a secure working environment by protecting ourselves, our assets and our operations against risk of injury, loss or damage from criminal or terrorist acts.
  • Ensure that all our employees, contractors and others are well informed, well trained, engaged and committed to the SHE improvement process.
  • Recognize that safe operations depend not only on technically sound plant and equipment, but also on competent people and an active SHE culture, and that no activity is so important that it cannot be done safely and without creating undue environmental risk.
  • Regularly provide assurance that the processes in place are working effectively. While all PotashCorp employees and contractors are responsible for SHE performance, line management is accountable for understanding and managing SHE risks.
  • Fully participate in hazard identification and safety, health, environmental and security compliance audits, voluntary efforts and reporting of SHE performance results.
  • Maintain public confidence in the integrity of our operations. We will actively communicate and consult with people outside the company to improve our understanding of external and internal SHE issues associated with our operations.
  • Expect that all parties working on PotashCorp’s behalf recognize the impact they can have on our operations and reputation. These contractors and service providers must operate to our standards and we will assure ourselves that their management systems and actions fully support our commitment to SHE performance.

ADDRESSING THE FULL SET OF SHE EXPECTATIONS IS MANDATORY AT EVERY FACILITY OR LOCATION THROUGHOUT THE POTASHCORP ORGANIZATION.

The relevance, application and degree of implementation within a particular operation or facility will be a function of:
  • The operational risk profile;
  • Local, State or Provincial and national and international regulatory requirements; and,
  • Any voluntary SHE management programs.

Facility or location leaders are accountable for putting in place appropriate documented systems and processes for each Expectation of the Thirteen Elements, for ensuring continuing progress toward PotashCorp’s SHE goals, for meeting annual SHE targets and for using the SHE assessment system to confirm that these processes are effective.

The content, format and terminology of SHE management and assessment systems at the facility or division level are a matter of local choice, provided they:
  • Are compatible with PotashCorp SHE compliance audits and assessments;
  • Are appropriate to operational risks;
  • Are relevant to regulatory and voluntary codes subscribed to by PotashCorp; and,
  • Can be referenced to all relevant expectations set out in this SHE Management System.
At the same time, we encourage standardization of programs, work processes and procedures across similar operations and facilities, and the transfer, sharing and adoption of efficient and cost-effective best practices.
