For the second consecutive year, PCS Phosphate Weeping Water received the Sentinels of Safety Certificate of Achievement. The site achieved 9,838 employee hours worked without a lost-time injury in 2005 to earn the honor in the underground small mine category.
Weeping Water also earned the Mine Safety Health Administration (MSHA) Rocky Mountain District small mine award in the underground nonmetal group and was the small mine winner for the state of Nebraska.
The Sentinels of Safety Awards recognize mining operations that record the most hours in a calendar year without a lost-time injury. The program is co-sponsored by the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) and the National Mining Association (NMA). All active and intermittently active mineral mining operations required to report injury and employment data under the Federal Mine Safety and Health Act of 1977 are eligible to participate.
"Maintaining a healthy, safe work environment is rewarding in and of itself, when each employee returns home safely after every shift," said Bill Donohue, Plant Manager at PCS Phosphate Weeping Water. "The honor is well-deserved recognition that reinforces the importance of safety in the workplace and is a great incentive to strive for each year".
Brian Aronson, Mine Heavy Machine Operator, Irvin Hooker, MSHA Rocky Mountain District Manager, Don Nickels, Maintenance Electrician, and Bill Donohue, Plant Manager were on-hand to receive the award.
