Northbrook Duplicates United Way Honor
Published: June 2007

Jim Heppel, Vice President, Human Resources, and Valerie Gish, United Way Campaign Coordinator for PotashCorp, Northbrook, IL, display Northbrook's latest Top Corporate Citizen award.
PotashCorp's Northbrook office surpassed its 2005 United Way fundraising total by 50 percent in winning Top Corporate Citizen in the North Suburban United Way region for the second year in a row.

With employee contributions matched by the corporation, Northbrook's total donation to the 2006 North Suburban campaign was $64,104. The $32,052 portion raised by Northbrook's 189 staffers earned them a place on the 2006 Employee Honor Roll for total individual contributions in the $25,000-$49,999 range.

"It's an honor to be recognized with this award for the second year running," said Jane Irwin, Senior Vice President, Administration, PotashCorp. "Our employees' generosity and support of the United Way says a lot about the caliber of our people."

Monies raised in the North Suburban United Way campaign help provide community health and human services programs in six communities. Last year, PotashCorp's Northbrook office raised a total of $42,766.

"We've created a heritage of helping at our US and Canadian facilities," said Irwin. "And we've now expanded that tradition to include our Trinidad operations, where employees last year participated in their first United Way fundraising drive under the PotashCorp banner."

PotashCorp culture seems to have played a role in the increased success of the United Way campaign.

Jim Heppel, Vice President, Human Resources, PotashCorp, attributed the big increase in funds raised this year to greater employee generosity and a higher participation rate.

That, coupled with the "hard work and creative ideas from Northbrook employees who volunteered as United Way coordinators, played an integral role in the great results," he said, adding: "I really believe we have a giving and caring nature within the company, and I think our people take pride in giving back."
