Total liabilities were $3.4 billion. Current liabilities (short-term debt, accounts payable and accrued charges, and current portion of long-term debt) totaled $1.1 billion of this amount. Other major items were long-term debt of almost $1.4 billion, future income tax liability of $632 million and accrued pension and other post-retirement benefits of $220 million.

Book value of shareholders' equity at the end of 2006 was $2.8 billion. The increase from 2005 was mainly the result of an increase in retained earnings due to net income earned.
