Operations

Rocanville is a conventional underground potash mine, operating at a depth of 960 meters (3,150 feet). It produces granular and standard product for agricultural use and standard industrial and feed-grade product. Annual capacity is 3.0 million tonnes KCl.

Significant Achievements

The site introduced a new "spot check" system to improve safety. The supervisors randomly check employees and give immediate feedback to ensure all safety procedures are being followed.

It completed an interim expansion to the tailings area.

Community Relations

One public meeting was held in 2006 about the environmental impact of the new tailings expansion.

A number of meetings were held with provincial regulatory agencies to discuss environmental issues relating to the tailings area and safety issues.

Rocanville requested a study by Saskatchewan Highways and Transportation to address traffic concerns. The study was completed, and a list of potential projects has been compiled to address these concerns.

Community Contributions

Cash donations to local community organizations totaled Cdn $52,752. The main recipients were Moosomin Integrated Health Facility, Rocanville Aquatics Center, Rocanville Skating Rink, Rocanville Golf Course and Moosomin Golf Course.

Awards

Rocanville was recognized with the Saskatchewan Mining Association Safety Award.

The value of goods, materials and services purchased locally in 2006 (excluding raw materials and energy) was Cdn $20.3 million, representing 72 percent of total procurement.
