Major EventsIn December 2006, Trinidad achieved 6 million hours worked without a lost-time injury. Employees set a new record for the most safety observations in a year. The site completed the revamp of its 02 ammonia plant, which was successfully engineered, managed and executed by in-house teams. The rate of employee turnover declined significantly. Community RelationsThe Citizen Advisory Panel, composed of corporate neighbors, residents and regulatory agency representatives, has operated on the Point Lisas Industrial Estate since 1999. It met 12 times in 2006. Issues discussed included safety, health and environment best practices; development of a community risk assessment; Estate emergency management; community outreach initiatives; training seminars for community groups and teachers; and restructuring of community communication strategies. Thirty meetings were held with government officials in 2006 to support the promulgation of new legislation. Topics discussed included the Occupational, Safety and Health Act; a bureau of standards for health, safety and environment; a database for hazardous waste; and development of a business continuity plan. Community ContributionsCash donations to local community organizations in 2006 totaled $108,000. The major recipients were the California Government Primary School, the Trinidad and Tobago Mutual Aid Scheme and the annual Health, Safety, Security and Environment Conference of the American Chamber of Commerce. The value of in-kind contributions was $5,500. Beneficiaries included Energy Challenge, the United Way, University of the West Indies and University of Trinidad and Tobago.
