Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan Inc. (PotashCorp) ranks 14th among "The Best 50 Corporate Citizens of Canada", according to an annual survey by Corporate Knights magazine.
The sixth annual survey ranks companies on their social, environmental and governance performance using sector specific, key performance indicators and a series of baseline indicators. PotashCorp was judged against the performance of its peers in the chemical sector, where energy efficiency and environmental safety were important considerations. Baseline indicators measured items such as pension quality, board independence, and the corporation's propensity to convert tax relief into jobs.
"These companies are not perfect in every way," Corporate Knights says in introducing the results on its website, "but they're doing the best job in fulfilling their end of the social contract . . . when going head-to-head with their sector peers."
