For the first time, PotashCorp will be included on the Dow Jones Sustainability North America Index. The new status took effect when equity markets opened on September 22, 2008.

PotashCorp is among 18 companies, and one of only three Canadian corporations, added this year to the prestigious index. Compiled by Zurich-based investment group Sustainable Asset Management (SAM) and leading global index providers Dow Jones Indexes and Stoxx Ltd., the index includes 125 North American companies.

The Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes (DJSI) employ a best-in-class approach and include sustainability leaders from each industry. Decisions on which companies are to be included in the index grow from thorough analysis of corporate economic, environmental and social performance. Corporate governance, risk management, climate change mitigation, supply chain standards and labor practices are among specific issues reviewed.

Market participants around the world closely study the results of the annual review that establishes all DJSI indexes. Asset managers in 16 countries license the indexes to manage a range of sustainability-driven portfolios valued at almost US$6 billion.
