SASKATOON CNW – Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan Inc. (PCS) today reported third quarter net income of $54.7 million ($1.01 per share) compared to $71.4 million ($1.33 per share) in the same quarter of 1997. Net sales revenue was $521.4 million and operating income $95.6 million. The comparable numbers for 1997's third quarter were $573.8 million and $108.9 million, respectively. Income before taxes was $79.7 million compared to $86.1 million a year earlier. At the end of nine months, income before taxes was $299.3 million, 2 percent higher than the $294.0 million earned in the first three quarters of 1997.

SASKATOON, CNW – The best potash sales in its history and record fourth quarter net income helped make 1997 the seventh consecutive year of improved earnings for Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan, the Company reported today. PCS earned $72.4 million in fourth quarter 1997 ($1.35 per share), compared to $46.2 million ($1.01 per share) in the same quarter of 1996.
