Saskatoon, Saskatchewan – Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan Inc. (PotashCorp) today announced a multi-year sponsorship commitment to the Saskatoon Community Foundation. Bill Doyle, President and Chief Executive Officer of PotashCorp, explained the motivation behind the $300,000 sponsorship.

“At the same time our products are helping people around the globe, we’re committed to investing in people and communities right here at home,” Doyle explained. “Our new partnership with the Saskatoon Community Foundation will enable us to share our success widely, throughout the whole community, and support grassroots organizations that are working to build a better Saskatoon.”

PotashCorp’s three-year commitment to the Saskatoon Community Foundation will enable the Foundation to grant nearly $100,000 annually to local community-based organizations. With this support, PotashCorp becomes the first title sponsor of the Foundation’s signature event: the PotashCorp Mayor’s Cultural Gala.

“Without question, PotashCorp’s sponsorship will have a significant impact,” said Zeba Ahmad, Saskatoon Community Foundation board member and chair of this year’s event. “Later this year, PotashCorp’s contribution will start flowing to worthwhile community groups and causes across the city. We’re thrilled to partner with PotashCorp.”

In celebration of the Foundation’s 40th anniversary, Ahmad also announced the launch of a new Cornerstone of the Community Award that will recognize a person who has a significant history of service to the community, through volunteering, leadership, philanthropy or other civic engagement. Nominations are open and the recipient will be announced at the PotashCorp Mayor’s Cultural Gala on September 18.

The Saskatoon Community Foundation works to enhance the quality of life in our community by strategically making grants to other charitable organizations – hunger programs, community theatre, adult literacy programs, summer environmental camps, programs for seniors, and many more. Saskatoon Community Foundation holds donations in trust in perpetuity. The income earned by the endowment is used to make grants.

PotashCorp is the world’s largest fertilizer company by capacity, producing the three primary crop nutrients – potash, phosphate and nitrogen. As the world’s leading potash producer, it is responsible for about 20 percent of global capacity. With operations and business interests in seven countries, and its head office and five potash operations in Saskatchewan, PotashCorp is an international enterprise and a key player in meeting the growing challenge of feeding the world.
