PotashCorp Lanigan Division Emergency Response Team was the “overall underground winner” at the Saskatchewan Mining Association’s 2010 Emergency Response Competition, held in Saskatoon on Saturday, June 5. Lanigan Division also won the underground practical skills competition, while PotashCorp Patience Lake Division earned top spot in the field problem and first aid surface competitions and PotashCorp Cory Division won the first aid underground competition.

“These competitions help our employees maintain the high emergency response standards we’ve established,” said Garth Moore, President of PCS Potash. “We focus on our safety standards and policies to try and prevent emergency situations from arising, but these competitions and our ongoing training ensure that we’ll be ready to respond should the need arise.”

In preparing for the competition, the teams train in the use of respiratory equipment, emergency tools, fire-fighting techniques and first aid procedures.

“The skills and dedication displayed by all involved in the competition is something we as a corporation can be extremely proud of,” said Garth Moore, President of PCS Potash. “Thanks to all for the time and effort you commit to this very important part of our business.”
