Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan Inc. (PotashCorp) recently announced that it has agreed to acquire Farmland Industries’ feed phosphate operation in Joplin, MO. The acquisition, which includes production, storage, bagging and administrative facilities, has an annual capacity of 180,000 tons. Terms of the purchase were not disclosed.
The addition of the Joplin plant increases PotashCorp’s annual feed phosphate capacity to 1.3 million tons. PotashCorp’s also has feed phosphate operations in Marseilles, IL; White Springs, FL; Weeping Water, NE; Kinston, NC and Sao Vicente, Brazil.
“The Joplin facility will permit us to better serve customers in the growing Southwest market, particularly through closer proximity to their plants,” said William J. Doyle - President and CEO. “The Joplin acquisition further strengthens one of our core businesses and underscores PotashCorp’s commitment to the animal nutrition industry. Our growth in this business is consistent with our goal of increasing the percentage of non-fertilizer business in our phosphate product mix.”
