Moosomin to Thank PotashCorp for Supporting Health Care Facility
September 8, 2008
Moosomin, Sask. – The Moosomin and District Health Care Foundation (MDHCF) will offer an official “thank you’’ to Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan Inc. (PotashCorp) tomorrow for the company’s substantial support of the Southeast Integrated Care Centre – Moosomin. Media are welcome to attend the event, which will take place at the regular meeting of the Moosomin Chamber of Commerce (see below for details).

When it announced the Community Campaign for the health care facility early this year, PotashCorp indicated its goal was to partner with the community to raise $500,000. In six months, people in Moosomin and area raised $250,000 and PotashCorp matched it.

With PotashCorp’s initial donation of $250,000 and the completion of the $500,000 Community Campaign, PotashCorp and the community together raised $750,000 for the new facility.

“The PotashCorp donation and matching Community Campaign was exactly what we needed to quickly reach our fundraising goal,’’ said Larry Miskiman, MDHCF director and project finance/fundraising chairperson. “With PotashCorp’s help, our dream is now a reality.’’

PotashCorp Rocanville General Manager Steve Fortney, who will be updating community leaders on the expansion project at this facility as well as presenting a $30,000 cheque that represents Rocanville Division’s contribution to the health care facility, said the district care centre is a good fit for PotashCorp.

“We couldn’t be happier with the success of our community partnership in raising funds for this wonderful new facility,’’ Fortney said. “What better way to express our strong belief in supporting the communities where we live and work than to help complete the fundraising required for this much-needed and comprehensive health care facility.’’

The Southeast Integrated Care Centre – Moosomin, formerly known as the Moosomin and District Integrated Health Care Facility, is scheduled to open October 7. The 85-bed centre will provide acute and long-term care, as well as treatment space and offices for home care, mental health, community therapy, addictions counselling, and child and youth services. It will replace Moosomin Union Hospital, Moosomin Nursing Home, and Eastern Saskatchewan Pioneer Lodge.

If you would like to attend: The “thank you’’ event will take place during the September 9 luncheon meeting of the Moosomin Chamber of Commerce at Boomerang’z Bar and Grill, located at Birtle Street and Broadway Avenue in Moosomin. The meeting, which begins 11:45 a.m., is open to the public.

The mission of the Moosomin and District Health Care Foundation is to ensure quality health care in Moosomin and surrounding communities by taking a lead role in fundraising for the health care facility.

Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan Inc. is the world's largest fertilizer enterprise producing the three primary plant nutrients and a leading supplier to three distinct market categories: agriculture, with the largest capacity in the world in potash, second largest in nitrogen and third largest in phosphate; animal nutrition, with the world's largest capacity in phosphate feed ingredients; and industrial chemicals, as the largest global producer of industrial nitrogen products and the world's largest capacity for production of purified industrial phosphoric acid.
