Lanigan, Sask. – PotashCorp announced today that construction is now complete on a Cdn $410 million project at Lanigan that will raise annual operational capacity by 1.5 million tonnes once production is ramped up. This includes 750,000 tonnes of additional compaction capacity to meet growing demand for granular potash, a product that receives a premium over standard grade products.
This debottlenecking and compaction expansion project primarily restored a mill that had been idle since the mid-1980s. In addition to new mill structures and equipment, upgraded ore hoisting and other underground equipment were added.
By the time production is optimized, an estimated 200 additional full-time jobs will be created at the Lanigan facility.
"We are proud to be creating new opportunities in Saskatchewan and contributing to increased food production around the world," said Bill Doyle, PotashCorp President and CEO. "The efforts of our employees and contractors have an impact that goes far beyond the borders of our province. Their work, and also the work of our company, is key to helping meet rising food demand around the world."
PotashCorp today announced new initiatives for Allan, Cory and Rocanville which, when added to projects currently underway and those completed in the past few years, bring the company's total investment in its Saskatchewan operations to Cdn $5.1 billion. PotashCorp is also spending Cdn $1.7 billion on construction of a new mine in New Brunswick. These projects are expected to raise PotashCorp's total potash operational capacity to 18.0 million tonnes annually by the end of 2012.
