PotashCorp to Provide $1 Million to Earthquake Relief Effort in China
May 16, 2008

Saskatoon, Saskatchewan – Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan Inc. (PotashCorp) announced today a donation of US $1 million to assist relief efforts in China following an earthquake that struck Sichuan Province on May 12. The donation will be directed to the China Charity Federation for use by the Sichuan Charity Federation.

"We extend our thoughts, prayers and support to the thousands of people whose lives have been affected by this tragedy," said PotashCorp President and Chief Executive Officer Bill Doyle. "Our friends and business partners in China say it is a traditional value in their country that when disaster strikes, help comes from all sides. We share this value and are responding quickly in their time of need."

This donation follows a commitment to the relief efforts in Myanmar through CARE USA, which was announced at PotashCorp’s annual meeting of shareholders on May 8.

"In recent weeks, we have witnessed how quickly lives and land can be devastated," said Doyle. "In addition to the immediate impact, these disasters can have a significant long-term effect on basic necessities, such as food production. We are acutely aware of the need to provide aid in times of crisis and to prepare for the rebuilding that follows. Our goal is to help people in these regions through the process of recovery."

Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan Inc. is the world's largest fertilizer enterprise producing the three primary plant nutrients and a leading supplier to three distinct market categories: agriculture, with the largest capacity in the world in potash, second largest in nitrogen and third largest in phosphate; animal nutrition, with the world's largest capacity in phosphate feed ingredients; and industrial chemicals, as the largest global producer of industrial nitrogen products and the world's largest capacity for production of purified industrial phosphoric acid.
