Privatization Brings Market-Driven Approach to the Industry

In 1980, governments controlled nearly two-thirds of the potash industry and made decisions often prompted by factors other than economic performance. Today, only 19 percent of the industry is government controlled, with Belarus accounting for the most significant portion.

This transition to private ownership has brought with it a more market-driven approach to the industry. Capacity reinvestment decisions are now based on economic rather than political factors.
