Few Producers, Many ConsumersGood potash deposits are rare and production is limited to 12 countries. However, potash is consumed in more than 150 countries. Almost 80 percent of production is traded across borders. Canada, Russia and Belarus are the largest potash producing regions, while Asia and North America are the largest consuming areas. After supplying their respective domestic markets, global producers rely on rail and ocean transport to reach the many areas with little or no indigenous production, such as Latin America, Asia, Africa and Oceania.
