Major Customers Need More FertilizerEven with incremental increases over the next several years, the long-term outlook for fertilizer consumption is very strong. According to the International Plant Nutrition Institute (IPNI), China needs to more than double its annual potash applications and increase its nitrogen and phosphate use by 40 percent to properly sustain its agricultural land and maximize yields. Similarly, India could almost triple its potash consumption and more than double its phosphate and nitrogen use. In Brazil, where the soil is low in potassium and the major crops are large potash consumers, the need to increase potash applications is especially dramatic. Source: IPNI, Fertecon, PotashCorp |
