WEEPING WATER, NEBRASKA, FEED PHOSPHATE FACILITY SHOWS COMMUNITY SPIRIT THROUGH ITS INVOLVEMENT

While PotashCorp's Weeping Water, Nebraska, plant's contributions to the local community are many; the one that's earned it the most respect is opening its doors to the community during the annual Limestone Days celebration.

"We feel it's the neighborly thing to do," said General Manager William Donohue. The celebration is to acknowledge the significance of limestone to Weeping Water and the surrounding communities," Donohue said.

"As one of three companies mining limestone here, what better way to show our neighbors what we're about than hosting tours of our underground limestone mine and of the feed phosphate plant."

Last year, as in previous years, all 300 slots available for the bus tour were filled. "We are the only mining company to offer a tour," Donohue said. "It starts with a safety video and is followed by a bus tour, with PotashCorp employees narrating throughout.

Other local organizations have also benefited from PotashCorp's presence in Weeping Water. Last year, a monetary donation toward the town's American Legion baseball team helped provide new uniforms for the players while donations to the local Weeping Water Public Schools helps fund sporting events and other activities for students.

In 2007, local purchases were $2 million, and local cash donations were $15,600, with the top six recipients as follows: Weeping Water School, Limestone Days, Cass County Fair, Cass County D.A.R.E., City of Weeping Water and Weeping Water Fire and Rescue.

"PotashCorp and two other mining operations in Weeping Water have kept these communities thriving. It's still a strong community, and we try to buy as local as we can," said Donohue. "You feel like you're part of the community, and the community is part of you."
