Aquaculture Going Swimmingly
Coho salmon smolts swim in a hatchery tank.
Aquaculture is the fastest growing segment of agri-industry. According to FAO statistics, wild fish catch has leveled off while demand for fish and other marine proteins continues to increase. In order to sustain production and meet rising demand, aquaculture technology is being developed to increase yield in captive pond systems. These systems are being integrated with livestock and crop farming systems
to increase nutrient utilization efficiency and reduce cost.
