Customers Tee Up for Charity

Man holding a trohpy
This past golf season there were many PotashCorp customers who crushed 300-yard drives, hit laser-like iron shots for tap-in birdies and broke par more often than not. We should mention that the customers who performed those golfing feats did them vicariously through the professionals they chose to play for them in PotashCorp's first annual Visionary Cup.

In all, nearly 500 customers from the industrial products, purified phosphates, fertilizer and feed customer groups participated in this match of prediction skills. As to their rewards, the top three finishers had charitable gifts of $5,000, $3,000 and $2,000 made in their names. In addition, golf merchandise was awarded to the top ten point earners.

Consisting of eight professional golf tournaments, the Visionary Cup's season began with the Masters in April and ended with the Tour Championship in September. For each of these events, customers had to pick two professionals who they thought would excel. Points were awarded based on the money those pros won.

To prevent contestants from picking Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson for every tournament, participants could use a particular pro only once. And to help them keep up with all the action, a special website was created and updated with standings and strategic advice.

And the winner is... Steve Hoffmann for a Tiger-like runaway victory in the first season of Visionary Cup competition. Among the Top 10 finishers were Industrial Products customers Pete Valesares, 7th place, and Jack Peters, 8th place. Purified Phosphates customer John Ward finished in 9th place.
