Geismar
Located 24 kilometers (15 miles) south of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and 96 kilometers (60 miles) northwest of New Orleans, on the east bank of the Mississippi, the Geismar complex covers more than 200 ha (500 acres). It contains both nitrogen and phosphate production areas, and has a capacity of 0.532 million tons of ammonia, 0.930 million tons of nitric acid and 0.223 million tons of phosphoric acid. It has 139 employees.
The nitrogen area includes an ammonia plant, four nitric acid plants, two ammonium nitrate plants, a urea plant and UAN mixing and storage facilities. The phosphate production area contains sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, superphosphoric acid and polyphosphate plants.
Geismar products are distributed by rail, truck and barge directly to national co-ops, independent retailers and multi-retail distributors in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi and up the Ohio, Mississippi and Illinois river systems. It has one of the industry’s few deepwater docks to receive and load vessels. It also has a full line of chemical manufacturing services and a central laboratory for strict quality control testing and environmental monitoring.
