HIGHLIGHTS FROM 2007

  • Delivered annual earnings of $1.1 billion – a record for the fourth straight year (all values in US dollars)
  • Achieved fourth-quarter earnings of $1.16 per share ($377 million), the highest in company history
  • Reached a record $912 million in potash gross margin, 29 percent above previous high of $707 million in 2005
  • Generated record gross margin of $536 million for nitrogen, surpassing previous record of $319 million in 2005
  • Accomplished record gross margin of $433 million for phosphate, breaking previous record of $230 million set in 1998
  • Declared a three-for-one stock split of company's outstanding common shares and a 100 percent dividend increase
  • Announced four potash expansion projects that will raise annual capacity to 15.7 million tonnes by the end of 2012, including: a $1.8 billion mine and mill expansion at Rocanville that will add 2 million tonnes; a $1.6 billion new mine and expanded milling operations at New Brunswick that will add a net 1.2 million tonnes; a major debottlenecking and expansion project at Cory that will add 1.2 million tonnes at a cost of approximately $775 million; and a project to bring back 360,000 tonnes of idled capacity at Patience Lake at a cost of approximately $92 million

CICA Honours PotashCorp Reporting


PotashCorp received the Award of Excellence for Corporate Reporting in the mining sector from the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (CICA). The award, presented at ceremonies held in December at Toronto, recognizes the company's excellence in financial reporting, corporate governance, electronic disclosure and sustainable development reporting for 2006.

The company also received honourable mentions for electronic disclosure and for its 2006 Sustainability Report.

PotashCorp Meets Popular Culture

Canadian Broadcasting Corporation comedian and political satirist Rick Mercer, star of the popular weekly television program Rick Mercer Report, gave his viewers an amusing and enlightening view of the potash industry when he toured PotashCorp's Allan facility.

PotashCorp Helps Sponsor Chicago Public Art Project

PotashCorp helped draw attention to an important environmental concern by sponsoring an entry in a Chicago public art project called Cool Globes: Hot Ideas for a Cooler Planet.

The project involved 100 globes created by different artists with the intent to inspire action against global warming. PotashCorp's globe reflected the company's commitment to sustainability and the role of fertilizer in maintaining a green planet.

Cool Globes was on display along Chicago's lakefront from June to October 2007.

PotashCorp Gives Boost to First Nations Games

PotashCorp's $50,000 contribution to the 2007 Saskatchewan First Nations Summer Games was a big boost to fundraising efforts and an essential component to the games' success, according to games coordinator Kelly Villeneuve.

Some 3,800 athletes aged 8-17 gathered for the event at Red Pheasant First Nation, located about 20 minutes south of The Battlefords in west-central Saskatchewan.

PotashCorp Employees Set Donation Records

PotashCorp employees from the Saskatoon region reached a milestone in 2007 by raising $122,033 during their annual fundraising drive for the United Way of Saskatoon & Area.

It is the first time that employees from Cory, Allan, Patience Lake and Saskatoon raised more than $100,000, and in doing so, broke their 2006 record by 30 percent.

Employees at PotashCorp's Northbrook office, meanwhile, helped the company earn the Top Corporate Citizen award in the 2006 Northbrook United Way campaign, for the second year in a row. Once employee donations were doubled under PotashCorp's matching gift program, Northbrook's total contribution to the drive was $64,104.

Employees Donate Personal Energy

PotashCorp employees from Saskatoon and Northbrook donated their time and energy to help build homes for four Saskatoon families.

With Saskatoon's housing prices rising fast, more and more families are having trouble becoming first-time homeowners. By lending a hand to Habitat for Humanity in Saskatoon, PotashCorp employees helped make dreams come true for several low-income families.

PotashCorp Aids Crisis Nursery

"Thrilled, absolutely thrilled," is the way the program director of Crisis Nursery in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan described her reaction to a big matching donation from PotashCorp.

Lisa Welter-Mills was referring to a $13,700 cheque from PotashCorp that brought to $27,400 the total monies raised during a pancake breakfast fundraiser that ran for five days last summer. Lisa Welter-Smith said the money would be used for day-to-day operations at the nursery, which offers a range of services to children whose parents are experiencing problems.
